My Story

I began playing piano in second grade. More than 24 years of teaching later, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Pedagogy and a Master’s degree in Piano Performance, and I’ve taught students across a wide range of ages and levels — from complete beginners to experienced players.

Why I Teach This Way

For years, I taught the way I’d been taught — building strong reading skills first. I was good at it. But over time I noticed a gap: students who could decode notation quickly weren’t always the ones who understood musical movement, tonality, or harmonic structure the way I wanted them to.

That observation led me toward Music Learning Theory and, eventually, to Music Moves for Piano — not as a rejection of my training, but as an evolution of it.

Teaching Philosophy

My lessons emphasize understanding over memorization, creativity over repetition, and curiosity over correctness. Every student grows at their own pace, toward the same goal: the understanding and desire for lifelong music making.

Professional Development

I’ve studied Music Learning Theory and Music Moves for Piano through reading, learning from other teachers, workshops, and online courses through Music Learning Academy — progressively incorporating the approach into my teaching, and using Music Moves as the foundation of my studio for several years now.

Personal Connection

I genuinely enjoy teaching students at every age and stage — from a curious 4-year-old’s first lesson to an adult rediscovering piano after years away. Whatever brings you to the bench, I’ll meet you there.
